Cornhill cottage is located in a remote and peaceful area of northern Scotland, it is 45 miles from Thurso, the nearest town.
Talmine Post Office (2 mins walk) stocks a wide range of good quality fresh and frozen foods including meat and vegetables, plus toiletries, cleaning materials, cards etc. A fish seller who sells a wide variety of fresh fish visits once a week stopping outside the Post office.There is also a gift shop in Talmine next to the post office.
The village of Tongue (10 mins drive / 5 miles) has a post office/shop, a bank and two hotels. It also has a very good general store which is the only place selling petrol/diesel for some miles.
Thurso, 45 miles away, is an attractive town with a good shopping centre. The drive east along the A836 coast road takes around an hour and a half, though the road has been greatly improved in recent years. The Caithness landscapes and buildings are quite different from those of Sutherland. A visit to Cups tearoom at Scrabster is highly recommended whilst you are in the Thurso area.
